At CES 2023, Samsung elevates sustainable living to a new level.

 Consumers now have additional options to conserve money, energy, and the environment thanks to new inventions.

Today, Samsung Electronics unveiled advancements that are intended to usher in a new age of sustainable living. Samsung's newest Bespoke home appliances provide users the ability to conserve energy and money as services like SmartThings Energy raise the bar for domestic efficiency. Samsung's most recent innovations make it simpler than ever for customers to lessen their impact on the environment and support the health of the planet. These technologies include a new wash cycle and filter that significantly reduce microplastic emissions from washers.

Maximizing Energy Savings with SmartThings

With more than 80 million connected devices, the SmartThings platform keeps growing and opening up new opportunities for customers to lower their household carbon footprint.

With support for additional devices and areas as well as even greater energy savings, SmartThings Energy's AI Energy Mode is now more potent than ever. For compatible refrigerators, up to 15% more may be saved; for suitable air conditioners, up to 20% more can be saved; and for compatible washers, up to 35% more can be saved on certain cycles.

First-ever Certification for Smart Home Energy Management Systems (SHEMS) in the Industry

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has given Samsung the first mass-market Smart Home Energy Management Systems (SHEMS) certification in the industry as a result of Samsung's efforts to improve and extend SmartThings Energy. The certification honours smart home appliances and services that control and automate connected devices to provide users visibility into how much energy they use, encouraging them to save energy, cutting costs, and facilitating demand response actions that lessen grid stress.

Additionally, the EPA has certified 260 Samsung home appliances under the ENERGY STAR® programme, including 43 "Most Efficient" awards. A rare recipient of the prestigious ENERGY STAR Corporate Commitment Award, Samsung has been a pioneer in the ENERGY STAR award programme for more than ten years.

Realizing Net Zero Homes and Providing Households with the Highest Level of Energy Efficiency

Samsung has introduced the Smart City Project, the next phase of its net zero home programme, to enable more people to enjoy energy independence at home. The Smart City Project will assist Sterling Ranch in establishing itself as a master-planned sustainable housing complex intended to accommodate 30,000 inhabitants in Littleton, Colorado, working with Sterling Ranch and its long-time technology partner Siemens.

Samsung appliances will provide residents with real-time insights on their energy, water, and natural gas consumption, and SmartThings Energy will be the primary interactive app used to monitor data for the inhabitants. Solar energy systems and home batteries will generate and store energy across the neighbourhood, while resource-saving appliances will consume less electricity and keep an eye on water usage. Samsung technology will make it simpler for the residents of Sterling Ranch to live a net-zero lifestyle when combined with smart infrastructure solutions from Siemens and smart home and energy optimization solutions from Resideo Technologies.

The relationship between Samsung and Resideo goes beyond the Smart City Project. In order to link clients with energy management programmes in California and Texas, Samsung and Resideo are looking into the possibility of integrating Samsung's appliances with Resideo's smart grid technologies. By enhancing SmartThings Energy's savings and extending Resideo's best-in-class demand response solution, this initiative might eventually assist in preparing additional communities for the smart grid.

Technology Using "Less Microfiber" to Combat Microplastics

While minimising the effect of our houses and technology is essential to building a sustainable future, there are other obvious and immediate environmental threats that require our attention. Together with Patagonia, Samsung has been tackling the issue of microplastics shedding during laundry and contaminating seas and other water bodies for more than a year.

The results of such work are Samsung's new Less Microfiber Cycle and Filter. The Less Microfiber Cycle, a breakthrough in the fight against microplastics, reduces microplastic emissions by up to 54%. The cycle, which is now offered in Europe, will be made accessible to suitable washers in Korea starting in February of this year and in the United States soon.

The newly created washing machine filter from Samsung and Patagonia has the potential to have a significant effect on the health of aquatic habitats, much as the Less Microfiber Cycle. By preventing microplastic emissions from leaking into the ocean during wash cycles, the Less Microfiber Filter lowers microplastic emissions. Beginning in the second half of 2023, it will be offered in a limited number of Samsung washing machines in Europe. It can also be purchased separately and used with any washer currently on the market, regardless of brand.

Consumers will find it simpler to cut back on environmental waste for years to come thanks to Samsung's most recent laundry advances. The industry-best 20-year warranties on its washers and refrigerators would also continue. The warranties, which cover the digital inverter technologies of the appliances, allow for further waste savings by extending the useful lives of Samsung refrigerators and washers. Customized door panels are another characteristic of bespoke refrigerators that enable extended usage by enabling consumers to quickly adjust the look of their current appliance rather than buying a new one.
