The 2nd generation HomePod will be supported, along with physical security keys, when iOS 16.3 is released next week. Two significant fixes for the iPhone will also be included.
The release candidate for iOS 16.3 arrived on beta devices on Wednesday, and according to Apple's release notes, it "fixes an issue where horizontal lines may momentarily appear while powering up iPhone 14 Pro Max." Some iPhone 14 customers have been complaining of horizontal lines flashing across their displays over the past few weeks. The lines reportedly show when the iPhone wakes up or restarts, according to accounts on social media and message forums. The update also resolves certain irritating Siri, CarPlay, and Lock Screen bugs:
● a problem where the wallpaper on the lock screen can seem black is fixed
● The Home Lock Screen widget's inaccurate presentation of the state of the Home app is fixed.
● a problem where Siri might not respond appropriately to music requests is fixed
● Fixes instances where Siri queries in CarPlay might not be properly understood.
The second problem is associated with the new Home architecture that was first introduced in iOS 16.2. Due to a sharing issue, Apple disabled the capability just before the holidays; however, they made no announcement regarding when it will be enabled again. The second iOS 16.3 beta had the Home architectural upgrade once more, indicating that Apple has resolved the problem. It's not specified in the release notes, so it's not clear if it will be included in iOS 16.3 or if it will be released separately.
MacOS Ventura 13.2 and iOS 16.3 are anticipated to release on Tuesday or Wednesday.
