(WISH) INDIANAPOLIS — Through the rest of January, a rare green comet might be visible in the night sky over central.
The green comet, also known as comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF), was discovered in March of last year when it passed close to Jupiter's orbit.
The comet will be closest to Earth on February 1-2, but it will be at its brightest at that time.
To attempt to spot the comet in central Indiana, look toward the northern skyline around the Little Dipper. Although I won't rule it out, it is unlikely to be seen with the unaided eye and could call for binoculars. There will be a little greenish tinge to the comet itself. Stay away from city lights since they frequently block any comet light. Overall, comet brightness cannot be predicted since they are famously unpredictable.
Over the following several evenings, clouds may be a problem in central Indiana, but maybe some will be able to see the comet before the end of January.
