(KSLA/Gray News) SHREVEPORT, Louisiana - A high school teacher has reportedly been placed on leave as a result of an incident at the school, according to Louisianan authorities.
The event in issue, according to KSLA, was caught on camera at Captain Shreve High School. It allegedly depicts instructor Mike Diffie speaking to a group of pupils in a classroom while using vulgar and degrading language.
According to the video, Diffie is heard stating, "If you're big, whose responsibility is that? Yours. Let's honour overweight individuals. Why? They will f****** die as a result of their obesity.
Diffie allegedly went on to say that since everyone in his family is overweight yet he maintains a healthy weight, heredity is a "excuse" for being overweight.
Run marathons. My folks are all obese. My brother and parents are both overweight. Diffie is apparently heard stating, "That's not genetics, that's a f****** excuse," on the footage.
Numerous worried parents reportedly contacted KSLA's crew about the alleged video.
Diffie has been placed on administrative leave, according to a representative for the Caddo Parish Public Schools, who also issued the following statement:
"The district acted right away after learning about the video, I'm happy to report. We initiated an inquiry since we take these issues seriously. The person responsible for this act was later given administrative leave.
The event is still being investigated, according to officials.
